Off Script by Scarves – Music Video

If you follow my work, you may recognize Niko Stathakopoulos. The frontman and founder of the Indie-Pop band, “Scarves,” Niko is one of the most motivated musicians I know. He is one of the most prolific producers of music videos for an indie band I’ve ever met. Always throwing around ideas and looking for ways to make new videos that are fun and engaging. This project was put aside months ago and then, out of the blue, suddenly came back front and center. With little more than a week to prepare, Niko found himself a talented group of luchadors in …

Jan Peters of Gallowglass

Jan Peters If you live in Bellingham like me, then you undoubtedly recognize Jan Peters (pronounced (Yahn), the multi-talented musician from Irish local band, Gallowglass. Maybe you don’t know Jan Peters, but you surely have seen him. Anyone who frequents downtown Bellingham is sure to encounter him at some point. Maybe you saw him onstage at a packed-to-the-rafters show at the Honeymoon, or hosting Irish night at the Star Club, maybe he was on stage with Hot Damn Scandal, or playing a set at the Subdued Stringband Jamboree, or maybe he walked up and said hi to you at the …

The Copacetics: A Photoshoot

I had  a photoshoot for The Copacetics this summer. They’re an old-timey folk folk band duo consisting of Tyagi Doran and Denny Franzmann. They play off each other on the banjo and guitar, respectively. But that’s not all they do. Denny is a regular radiobox of swinging showtunes from the 20’s and Tyagi is a tap dancing machine. He tears the floor up with his classy wingtip shoes. The two of them belt and hoot and holler all manner of Folk, American, and Swing songs from the 20’s up through the 70’s, as well as a healthy mix of their …

Mindfire Inc.: A Colorful Short Film

An Ode to Jacque Tati. It may be Wednesday, but it's time for a throwback. I made this short film over two years ago. It was a bit of an impromptu project spurred by a local week long film competition. The competition was a bit like a 48 film festival, only you had a week to create it. Which, although sounding easier, just forces you to be sleepless for an entire week. So much delirium. I can't remember what all the requirements were, but using the term Mindfire was a must. I think the theme was "Burn it with Mindfire," ...

SVO: Subject/Verb/Object

Subjec / Verb / Object  is a Bellingham rock band composed of Jake Werrion and Brett Steelhammer, yes….. Steelhammer. I first met Jake a few years ago as he was and still is dating a past roommate of mine. Goofy and loveable he’s always a good friend to turn to. Brett, I met just before the shoot began. On top of that, I didn’t have a chance to hear any of their music before the shoot. But I knew Jake and we got along fine, I knew his general style. I was put on the spot to find some interesting …

BJ & Sherry’s Wedding

Congratulations to the Otts! What a treat I received this past weekend when I photographed the blessed union between BJ Ott and Sherry Hammack. I’ve known BJ for about 3 years now, 2 of which involved living with him as his roommate. In that time, I got to know BJ as a very idiosyncratic, meticulous, perfectionist, faith-filled, and loving artist. Was that enough? Do I need to say more? I could go on for days, but to keep it short, BJ is truly a wonderful person with a “beautiful soul” as they say. Not that I subscribe to those descriptions. …
